Robert Kiyosaki is an entrepreneur, investor, author and motivational speaker. He was born in Hawaii on April 8, 1947. After high school he attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and graduated as a deck officer in 1969. He served in the Marine Corps until 1975, piloting helicopters in Vietnam, and was awarded the Air Medal.
After leaving the Marine Corps., Mr. Kiyosaki began a career as a salesman for the Xerox Corporation. He dabbled in various personal business ventures, with varying success, until become financially independent in the 1990's. He retired in 1997 at the age of 47.
Retirement, however, did not last long for Robert Kiyosaki. He founded Cashflow Technologies Inc., and delved into the search for methods of achieving financial independence.
He was profoundly influenced by his childhood, in which he claimed to have two "Dads": his biological father, a teacher resigned to live life constantly worried about money and not willing to evaluate ways to improve his economic position and; his friend's father, a high school drop-out and self-made, moderately successful, financially independent optimist. This juxtaposition caused Mr. Kyosaki to dedicate his life to discovering ways to make money and become financially independent.
His theory is more psychological than scientific, and he stresses financial awareness and self-teaching as keys to understanding what are the best investments for individuals seeking to preserve and increase their wealth. The Cashflow QUADRANT is the key in his basis for understanding how money is made. The Cashflow QUADRANT is made up of ESBI.

Mr. Kiyosaki has published over a dozen books, the most successful being Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
His company, Rich Dad, focuses on personal investment strategies and self-help to achieve financial independence. He makes a clear separation between assets that make money and those that lose money, a simple approach that classifies businesses, real estate, commodities and investments as money-makers and houses, cars and personal luxuries as money-losers. He has developed computer and board games that teach young children financial awareness and is a firm believer that the road to financial success begins in one's own heart and mind which are tools that must be utilized to develop the correct investment strategy for each individual. His belief that the old adage of "get a good job, save money, get out of debt, invest for the long term, and diversify" is outmoded and counterproductive has earned him both praise and criticism.
Mr. Kiyosaki is also a prominent public speaker and has appeared on various TV shows as well as print and internet media.
