Jim Rogers is a businessman, investor, author, financial commentator, and world traveler. He is a strong supporter of the free market and is markedly opposed to government spending and Federal Reserve policies. He is particularly fond of precious metals, agriculture and alternative energy as investments. He currently resides in Singapore.
Mr. Rogers was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 19, 1942, and grew up in Demopolis, Alabama. He started his first business at the age of five selling peanuts at baseball games. He received a B.A. from Yale University in 1964, and a second B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Balliol College, Oxford University in 1966.
His professional career began in 1970 at Arnhold and S. Bleichroder, a New York-based investment bank. Together with George Soros, he founded the Quantum Fund in 1973, which over the course of the following ten years managed to increase in value by a staggering 4,200% while the S&P 500 only managed a 47% gain. Quantum Fund is recognized as one of the world's first truly international funds. This early success allowed Mr. Rogers to promptly retire in 1980 and he began to travel the world on a motorcycle.
In 1998 he founded the Rogers International Commodity Index, a return index concentrating on commodities investment.
After his Guinness Book of World Records-setting trip around the world with his wife between 1999 and 2002, Mr. Rogers has become a regular guest on TV business programs such as Fox News' Cavuto on Business. He moved to Singapore in 2007, all but abandoning the US, and advised young people to think outside the box and scuttle dreams of working for Wall Street. Jim Rogers is a firm believer that the future lies in commodities.
He is author of a half-dozen books, the most popular being the best-seller Adventure Capitalist (2003).
Other notable books include:
